By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 4
. Inflation, as measured by the wholesale price index (WPI), slumped further to 4.83 per cent during the week ended February 19 to touch its 40-month low, after remaining unchanged for the two previous weeks at 5.01 per cent.
In keeping with the Economic Survey 2004-05 forecast that the Government would be able to contain the price levels in view of the various steps taken in the last quarter of 2004, the WPI point-to-point inflation fell 0.18 per cent during the week (ending Feb. 19) as compared to a week ago, mainly on account of lower prices of edible oils, vegetables and certain manufactured products.
During the like week a year ago, the level of inflation was pegged at 6 per cent.
