Gholam Ali Hadad Adel, Speaker of Iranian Parliament, being presented a replica of Charminar by K.R. Suresh Reddy, Speaker, and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, in the Assembly on Friday.
HYDERABAD, MARCH 4. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has invited Iranian investment in the oil industry, gas distribution and infrastructure projects in the State. Andhra Pradesh could, in turn, participate in Information Technology, pharma and biotechnology initiatives in Iran as part of an exchange programme if it took off, Dr. Reddy told a 30-member Parliamentary delegation from Iran led by its Speaker, Gholam Ali Hadad Adel.
Reception hosted
The delegation visited the Assembly on Friday when it was hosted a reception, attended by Dr. Reddy and the Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy. It also watched the proceedings of the House for a brief while. The Chief Minister spoke about the need for "marriages'' between Iranian and the State Governments in developmental projects. He praised "Irani chai'' (tea) for which Hyderabad is popular. Mr. Suresh Reddy referred to the history of the Indo-Iranian relationship. He said both nations had some commonality ethnically. The Iranian Speaker said no other modern civilisation had a relationship as close as India and Iran. He said the delegation had a homely feeling on their visit to Hyderabad. The literature of Deccani Hyderabad was respected in Iran, he added. Nafeesa Fayaz Baksh, elected from Teheran, was the lone woman member of the delegation.
