56-crore dividend by Union Bank

NEW DELHI MARCH 4. The Chairman and Managing Director of the Union Bank of India, K. Cherian Varghese, presented a cheque for Rs.56 crores as interim dividend at the rate of 20 per cent for the year 2004-05 to the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, here on Thursday.

Senior executive of the bank -- Rathnakar Hegde, Executive Director, and V.K. Khanna, General Manager of North Zone -- were among those present on the occasion.

Kids dazzle at cultural week

NEW DELHI MARCH 4. A weeklong cultural function titled "The Shemrock Mega Showcase-2005" featuring entertaining programmes by children in the two-to-four-years age group began at the Air Force Auditorium here on Wednesday.

All the branches of the Shemrock Group of Schools, one of the leading chains of preparatory schools, are participating in the cultural function that will continue till March 7. The Member of Parliament from New Delhi, Ajay Maken, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Citation ceremony held

NEW DELHI MARCH 4. The citation ceremony of the outgoing batch of Springdales School in Pusa Road, was held here recently.

In her welcome address, the principal of the school, Ameeta Mulla Wattal, said: "Our lives are marked by change. And we experience the change we get awareness which offers us an opportunity for transformation."

Besides the Director of Delhi University, South Campus, Deepak Paintal, who was the chief guest, the Chairperson of Springdales Education Society, Rajni Kumar, was also present.

Bank holds essay competition

NEW DELHI MARCH 4 . To know their expectation from the banking industry, the Syndicate Bank organised an essay competition for students of various schools and colleges of Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Noida at Jesus and Mary College on Dhaula Kuan here recently.

While the Principal of the College, Sister Marina John, was the chief guest, the General Manager of the Syndicate Bank, N.N. Reddy, presided over the function.

Training for rehab students

NEW DELHI MARCH 4. The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has chalked out a year-long programme to train rehabilitation students through the distance mode across the country. Starting March 9, a weekly session will be arranged every Wednesday through the teleconferencing facility at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in New Delhi.

The 52 study centres of RCI have been connected with this dynamic communication infrastructure. The teleconferencing will include various topics on disability -- legislation on disability, concession and facilities, early identification and referrals, aids and appliances, psycho-social implications, vocational services, inclusive education.
