Power shutdown

MANGALOREUDUPIMANGALORE, MARCH 4.MARCH 4.MARC There will be no power supply between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday in Baindur, Kollur, Shiroor, Navunda and nearby areas in Udupi district because of emergency work at Baindur power substation, according to a press release from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company. There will be no power between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday in Udyavara and nearby areas in the same district because of maintenance work at the Udyavara feeder.

Man killed in road accident

MANGALOREUDUPIMANGALORE, MARCH 4.MARCH 4.MARC A man was killed and another was injured on Thursday night when a lorry hit them near the Hanumantnagar School here. According to the Udupi Traffic Police, Ramrup (20) and Badan, alias Mukesh Kumar, were sitting near the school when a lorry going from Udupi to Kundapur on National Highway 17 lost control and ran them over. Ramrup was killed on the spot, while Badan, who suffered serious injuries, was admitted to a hospital. Ramrup and Badan, scrap dealers from Uttar Pradesh, were preparing to sleep when the incident took place.

Vinyas '05 inaugurated

MANGALOREUDUPIMANGALORE, MARCH 4.MARCH 4.MARC Yogish Bhat, MLA, on Friday inaugurated Vinyas '05, an exhibition conducted by the Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology (MIFT) at the MIFT campus here.

Mr. Bhat spoke on the status of the textile industry and expressed the hope that steps will be taken to improve the standard of the textile industry and the khadi brand.

The Registrar of Mangalore University, Sundar Naik, launched the MIFT's branded shirt. Vijaykumar, Professor at Bapuji Institute Engineering and Technology (BIET), Davangere, spoke. M.G. Hegde, founder of the MIFT, and Laxmi Hegde, Director of the MIFT, were present.
