Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MARCH 5. K. Lakshminarayanan, Pondicherry Education Minister and confidant of the suspended AICC member, P. Kannan, today quit office. Yesterday, he decided to resign from the Rangasamy Ministry following the action taken against his mentor by the All-India Congress Committee. Mr. Kannan, a former Minister, was levelling corruption charges against the Government. Mr. Lakshminarayanan submitted the resignation letter through his Secretary at the office of the Chief Minister. Later, he was closeted with Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera at the Raj Nivas for about 20 minutes before handing over a copy of the resignation letter. With his resignation the strength of the Ministry has come down from six to five.
`Ill-at ease'
Mr. Lakshminarayanan told newsmen that he was not happy about the "prevailing ingratitude and revenge." He felt "ill-at ease" continuing as Minister. The Lt. Governor told newsmen that Mr. Lakshminarayanan "informed me of his resignation. It is the procedure that the letter of resignation should be handed over only to the Chief Minister. Mr. Lakhera answered in the negative when he was asked whether he was keeping the Centre informed of the political developments in Pondicherry. To another question he said there was no political crisis.
