CHITRADURGA, MARCH 5. The four-day celebrations of the 75th Shivarathri Mahotsava at the Sri Kabirananda Ashram and the silver jubilee celebrations of the pattabhisheka of Sri Shivalingananda Swamiji, the seer of the ashram, started here on Friday evening. Speaking on the occasion, Shivamurthy Swamiji, the pontiff of the Sri Murugha Mutt, took strong exception to the recent trend of harping on materialistic pleasures. The pursuit of pleasure has become the purpose of life but it cannot enhance the joys of life. The body is considered the centre of all happiness. Accumulation of property and everything required for physical pleasure leads to dissatisfaction, he said. He said that he had not lit a lamp during the inauguration of programs for the past 8 years saying that the light of rationality is more important than lighting a lamp as a ritual.
`Ignore differences'
Khazi Syed Shamshudin of the Jamiya Masjid said that God has no religion or caste. Living together with love, affection friendship and mutual trust is the need of the hour, he added. Reverend S.S. Sarvand spoke. Sampathraj Jain of Jain Mitramandali said that people should ignore all differences of caste and ensure that love and respect is the basis of any religion. G. Sharanappa explained the new dimensions of Bhakti in his talk on "Vivekanandara Karma Rahasya." Girija Pujari Ningappa, president of the zilla panchayat, said that the mutt is known for spreading the message of religious tolerance. Eswaranandapuri Swamiji; Sri Swamy Brahma Nistananda Maharaj; and the MLA H. Anjaneya, were present.
