Foundation stone laid
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit stressed the need for necessary guidance and also called for tuning the systems according to the needs, aspirations and dreams of adolescents. The Founder Chairman, UVCT, U.N.B.Rao, said the centre would run a number of programmes including student counselling and career guidance besides mainstreaming school dropouts and under achievers. Courses like beauty culture, dress making, cooking, computer applications, motor driving and embroidery would also be offered. The UVCT is already running such centres in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Women's Day session
The session will deal with physical, mental and spiritual well-being for facilitating women's dual roles as home-makers and at the workplace. Dr. H.K. Chopra, renowned cardiologist and Senior consultant at Moolchand Hospital, will lead the interactive session. Other speaker will be Dr. Veena Bhatt (Women health care after 40); Dr. Puja Dewan (Cancer in Women); and Dr. Sanjeela Maini (Tobacco Addiction). The session will begin at 2-30 p.m.
Seminar on good governance
Speaking at a seminar on "New Imperatives For Good Governance" at I.P. Estate here, Mr. Pachouri said this would require widespread reforms in attitudes and institutions of governance and fast implementation of the policies and programmes. "Transparent governance without introducing delay in decision-making should be the responsibility of the administrators," he added. The seminar was organised by the Indian Institute of Public Administration Alumni Association.
Financial aid to widows
Under the Widow Rehabilitation Scheme, cheques worth Rs.20, 000 were distributed to each of the 15 widows of the Dakshinpuri Madangir segments. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh said the Government had launched a number of welfare schemes for the benefit of widows, differently abled persons and the elderly.
Rich tributes paid
The Principal, Jasleen Kaur, conducted a special assembly in which the staff and students observed two minutes silence. A special prayer was recited for the departed soul followed by singing of devotional hymns. Dr. Pandit had passed away on February 28.
