HYDERABAD, MARCH 5. The two-day State BJP Executive meeting which began at Kakinada on Saturday while accusing the Government of failure on all fronts demanded a comprehensive act to check spurious seed. It claimed no action had so far been taken against traders involved in spurious trade. In a resolution on the agriculture situation, the party demanded release of water till month-end to meet the needs of farmers and to hold elections to agriculture market committees. It criticised the administration for failing to effectively manage the supply despite availabilty of water in reservoirs, according to party sources here. The resolution accused the Government of failing to provide the promised nine-hour power supply as also free supply to agriculturists. It demanded revision of GO 421on payment of ex gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicides. The BJP charged the Government with failure to effectively tackle drought. Besides, it said the Centre could provide only 2.2 lakh metric tonnes of rice for the Food-for-Work Programme. This was in contrast to the NDA regime which released 55 lakh tonnes of rice.
Call to cadre
While reiterating the party's stand on "miserable" failures on all fronts because of wrong policies, N. Indrasena Reddy, party president, in his address alleged that the Government planned to raise Rs. 10,400 crores as loans in this financial year. The total loans would amount to Rs. 17,000 crores. Mr. Reddy exhorted the party cadre to play a pivotal role in view of people seeking an alternative to the Congress. Earlier, addressing the inaugural session, Bangaru Lakshman, former BJP president, urged the leadership to restore the united approach policy for enlist the support of all sections of people. On the concluding day, the party would adopt a political resolution. Former national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, is slated to address the valedictory session.
