Plea to retain security for Naidu

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 5. The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Government retain the security provided to the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, during the last 10 months.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the TDP deputy leader, N. Janardhan Reddy, the MP, R. Chandrasekhar Reddy, and the former MP, U. Venkateshwarlu, said keeping in view the high threat perception for Mr. Naidu, the Government should continue the Advance Security Liaison in his case.

The `signals'

The TDP leaders declined to specify the extent to which the security was reduced, saying that they were waiting for details. However, they questioned the "signals" the Government intended to send by scaling down security cover for Mr. Naidu.

They threatened to take to the streets to "expose" the Congress regime for suspending TDP MLAs from the House on February 23.

"Mr. Naidu faces threat from not only the Maoists but also other destructive forces," they said.

They took exception to the `casual attitude' of the Congress Ministers in the Assembly. They singled out the Agriculture Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy, for his statement that farmers were happy under the Congress regime.

They said that it was unfortunate that the Government was not serious about the issues being raised in the House.
