Tirupati
TIRUPATI, MARCH 5. Pandemonium prevailed at the Tirupati Municipal Council meeting on Saturday over the issue of alleged allotment of works on nomination basis by the Chairman, K. Sankar Reddy (TDP), to his `henchmen' without the Council's approval. There were acrimonious scenes on several issues like the unilateral move by the Chairman to order a resurvey of households for hiking the property tax, auctioning of shopping complex, time lag in holding Council meetings and bunching of agendas. The Chairman abruptly adjourned the meeting. At an informal press meet the latter charged that the Chairman was ordering a fresh hike in property tax only to mop up `personal funds'.
