KANNUR, MARCH 5. The Congress leader and K. Karunakaran-loyalist, N. Ramakrishnan, today decided to keep away from the zonal rallies being planned by the `I' group of the party. Mr. Ramakrishnan told a press conference here today that the meeting of his supporters held here in the morning decided to adhere to the party high command's instruction against holding the rallies. He said that the moves of Mr. K. Muraleedharan and his supporters to split the party in defiance of the high command and the KPCC would be strongly confronted by party workers. Mr. Ramakrishnan said that he was among the few leaders who had been supporting all the political decisions of Mr. Karunakaran since 1970 when he became an MLA. The allegation raised by some `I' group leaders that Mr. Karunakaran and Mr. Muraleedharan had been sidelined in the party made no sense. People knew who was responsible for the erosion of Mr. Karunakaran's stature as a senior party leader who had commanded respect of the high command, he said. He and his supporters would continue to be part of the `I' group, Mr. Ramakrishnan added.
