KOZHIKODE, MARCH 5. Taking into consideration the welfare of women and children, the Kozhikode District Panchayat has decided to provide equipment to 22 health centres in the district at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs. A scheme has also been planned for inmates of the Leprosy Hospital at Chevayur here. The total project cost was Rs. 15 lakhs, the District Panchayat president, M.K. Nalini, said here today. She said that the scheme involved purchasing equipment, improving facilities and starting a rain-harvesting project at the hospital. An amount of Rs. 25 lakhs would be utilised for constructing buildings at three primary health centres at Cheruppa, Mukkom and Meladi. The District Panchayat was allotted Rs. 3 crores while the grama panchayats got Rs. 10 crores in the last instalment. More time was needed to utilise the funds, Mr. Narayanankutty said.
