India will lead in intellectual capital: Tytler

KOCHI, MARCH 5. The Union Minister of State for Non-Resident Affairs, Jagdish Tytler, has said that India will become the country with the most intellectual capital in the world. Nobody can match us in scientific excellence in certain fields, such as software technology, he said.

The Minister was inaugurating a function organised by the Global Kerala Foundation here today to honour M.A. Yousuf Ali who won the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman given by the Union Government. Mr. Tytler, who was one among the members of the award committee, said the selection was tough as the panel of names considered for the award included many who had made a mark in their respective fields.

Vayalar Ravi, senior Congress leader, who presided over the function, recalled that Mr. Yousuf Ali played a pivotal role in the conception and execution of the Nedumbasserry airport.

The Minister for Education, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, said Keralites were performing well in many fields. Mukthar Abbas Naqvi, MP, described Mr. Yousuf Ali as a strong bridge between India and Gulf countries. M.A. Baby, CPI(M) leader, said the award had gone to a deserving person.

Mar Basalios Thomas I, the Catholicose of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, T. Padmanabhan, writer, and T. Haridas, secretary-general of Global Kerala Foundation, spoke. Earlier, G. Rajmohan, Chairman of Kerala Pollution Control Board, welcomed the gathering. C.P. Jain, president of Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry, proposed a vote of thanks.
