NEDUMBASSERY, MARCH 5. The Chairman of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs (NoRKA), M.M. Hassan, today said that NoRKA counters were being proposed at the Kochi and Kozhikode airports for assisting non-resident Keralites on their arrival from abroad. Talking to presspersons at the airport here, he said a similar counter had been set up at the Thiruvananthapuram airport, in association with New India Assurance. He said the decision by the NoRKA to issue identity cards to non-resident Keralites to ensure them priority in services provided by Government departments and public sector undertakings was in accordance with their long-pending demand. The scope of benefits made available would be extended to private sector undertakings too. Mr. Hassan said those who had returned to the State after serving abroad and other States would be covered under a health insurance scheme launched by NoRKA, in association with New India Assurance. NoRKA-ROOTS, a subsidiary wing of NoRKA, would be in charge of implementing the insurance scheme. He said that Rs. 4 crores had been earmarked in the budget for setting up a NoRKA Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. This would start functioning this year itself. Commenting on the strife in the State unit of the Congress, Mr. Hassan said activities based on group affiliations were not new to the party. Taking disciplinary action for factional affiliations was not practical. He, however, remarked that to hold zonal rallies against the specific instructions of the party high command would be considered gross indiscipline.
