Accused in theft cases arrested after high drama

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, MARCH 5. <150>Mammadali, 20, an accused in many theft cases, was arrested at Fort Kochi today at the end of a three-hour drama that began at 7.30 p.m.

A police party which went to arrest him today after receiving information that he was in the area, was taken by surprise when the accused fled from his place on seeing them.

The drama began when he climbed a tree inside a bar. Efforts by the police to bring him down failed, as Mammadali threatened to jump down. He also threatened the police that he would commit suicide by stabbing himself using a knife.

The accused then told the police that he would not come down unless the District Collector reached the site.

The police later sought the help of the Fire and Rescue Service personnel.

The firemen were finally successful in ending the drama after they used a water jet upon him.

Mammadali could not hold on to the tree following this move.

The Mattanchery Police then took the accused into custody.
