BANGALORE, MARCH 5. Two persons were assaulted and robbed in different parts of the city on Friday night. A four-member gang assaulted Chandru, a roadside tea vendor, and relieved him of Rs. 2,000 in cash, a gold ring, and a mobile phone, near Srigandhakavalu on Magadi Road on Friday night. According to the police, two persons waylaid Chandru while he was returning home in Govindaraja Nagar. The miscreants hit him with blunt weapons and then carried him to a nearby eucalyptus grove. There, two others joined them and again assaulted Chandru. Arul Das, a lorry driver, was assaulted by four persons and was relieved of Rs. 3,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and a wristwatch at Siddalingayya Circle in Sampangiramanagar police station limits on Friday night. The police said Das, after having parked the lorry at the owner's place, was walking down to his Padarayanapura house when four men who came by an autorickshaw stopped him. They hit him with blunt weapons and took away the cash, the cellphone and the wristwatch.
Cash bag snatched
K.S. Manjunath, an engineer with the Karnataka Milk Federation, lost Rs. 1.5 lakh in cash at Bhashyam Circle in Seshadripuram police station limits on Thursday. He filed a complaint with the police on Friday. According to the police, Manjunath of R.P.C. Layout was going on his motorcycle to a bank to deposit the sum in his account. On the way, he stopped the vehicle to answer nature's call and when he was about to start his motorcycle again, a man diverted his attention saying that some Rs. 5 notes had fallen on the ground. While he was collecting the currency notes, the man snatched the cash bag and ran away, the police said.
Dies in wall collapse
One person was killed and another seriously injured when the wall of an old building collapsed at Bilekahalli in MICO Layout police station limits on Saturday. The two and six others were engaged in demolition of the building. The police gave the name of the dead as Thimmayya (24),a native of Raichur.Mahadev (24) was seriously injured. Six others suffered minor injures, the police said. The building, the police said, belonged to Sudheendra, a civil engineer from Jayanagar. He was arrested and later released on bail.
