THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 5. The auctioning of flats in EMS Nagar at Pattoor in the city, under the Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB), was disrupted today by those who had already been allotted apartments in the scheme. The allottees, under the banner of EMS Nagar Residents' Association, protesting against the lack of basic amenities in the colony, disrupted the proceedings resulting in the suspension of the auction of new flats.
Apathy alleged
Even basic requirements like water supply, power connection, lift and parking facility had not been taken care of by the KSHB, the residents alleged. The apathy of the Board in addressing these issues had been causing hardship to the residents, said R. Satheesh Kumar, secretary of the association. Senior officials of the Board, who arrived at the scene, held talks with the representatives of the association and agreed to take urgent remedial measures, before the auction could be resumed. The protest by the association would continue till such time when its demands were met, the secretary said.
