PONDICHERRY, MARCH 6. The members of the Pondicherry unit of CITU (Centre for Indian Trade Unions) today took out a rally urging the administration to constitute a welfare board for autorickshaw workers and employees. At a conference held later, the members also sought specific measures for the betterment of unorganised labourers in the Union Territory. The chairman of the district wing of CITU, Ramassamy, the general secretary of the Auto Drivers Union, Srinivasan, the secretary of the CPI(M)'s Pondicherry unit, V. Perumal, its executive committee member, T. Murugan, and the CITU joint secretary, S. Sivakumar, were among those who spoke. Singaravelu a special delegate from the Tamil Nadu committee of the CITU, gave a special address.
