PONDICHERRY, MARCH 6. The JIPMER Director, K. S. V. K. Subba Rao, has said the employees and workers in the institute would be subject to disciplinary action if they participated in the one-day strike tomorrow. Appealing to the workers not to go on strike (called by JIPMER anti-Conversion Action Committee), the Director said in a press release today that the views of the employees had been taken note of in an interaction they had with the Union Health Ministry officials recently. Assurances had also been given that their interests would be fully protected. The Director said the Health Minister had also made it clear at a meeting with leaders of political parties here on Saturday that the issue of `autonomy' was only a ``broad thinking" and would be considered only after consulting all employees and staff. Subba Rao said the management had revoked the orders of suspension issued against employees (last month) only to create a congenial atmosphere and also on the basis of the assurance by employees that patient care would not be affected and that they would suspend all protests till the issue was discussed. Participation in the strike would attract disciplinary action under Fundamental Rule 17-A, he said.
