By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 6. The Department of Nephrology of the Pondicherry Government General Hospital would be expanded to include kidney transplant facilities and to cater to all the needs of the patients, the Chief Minister of Pondicherry, N. Rangasamy, has said.

Conferring the `Vocational Excellence Award' on P. Soundararajan, Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology in Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai, at a function organised by the Pondicherry Rotary Club (Cosmos) here today, Mr. Rangasamy said that there should be early detection of kidney diseases.

Voluntary organisations should supplement the Government's efforts in the public health care sector.

Mr. Rangasamy inaugurated the one-day kidney diseases awareness and detection camp of the Club.

A large number of people underwent tests free of cost.
