Orissa
By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR, MARCH 6 . Hundreds of tribal men and women from different parts of Orissa staged a dharna before the Assembly today demanding regularisation of forest land that they had been using since long. The dharna, organised by the Campaign for Survival and Dignity, will continue for three days, coinciding with similar agitations being held in other States. The organisation demanded an end to alleged "harassment" of tribals at the hands of forest officials and lack of basic facilities in hamlets. The tribals living inside forests should not be treated as encroachers in view of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, but be made partners in forest management, it said. The organisation will also stage a dharna in New Delhi from March 7 to 23 to highlight its demands.
