CHANDIGARH, MARCH 6. Senior Congress leader and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar has accused the Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, of introducing ``ill-bred and ill-mannered'' politics in the State for furthering his political interest. Mr. Brar was suspended by the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee for his alleged anti-party activities. His case has been referred to the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, for expulsion from primary membership for six years.
`Gill under pressure'
Mr. Brar claimed that the DAC chairman, Nasib Singh Gill, was under tremendous pressure from the Chief Minister, whom he accused of trying to ``weaken'' the Congress in Punjab. Mr. Brar refuted the charge purportedly pointed out in the DAC letter that he was about to join the Shiromani Akali Dal led by the former Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal. ``I have been fighting against the Akalis for the last 30 years and this is the last thing that can enter my mind. I am not even on talking terms with them (the Akalis). This is a baseless charge levelled against a dedicated Congressman like me who holds his president Sonia Gandhi in the highest esteem,'' he said at a press conference here. The row between Capt. Amarinder Singh and Mr. Brar came to the fore last month when the latter said at a press conference in Bathinda that the Chief Minister failed to maintain law and order. Mr Brar had also stated that Capt. Singh was a signatory to the resolution for the demand of Khalistan about two decades ago which was submitted by the Akalis to the United Nations. Asked why he had been making public statements from time to time, which allegedly damaged the party's image, he said ``it is my duty to apprise the high command of how Capt. Amarinder Singh has been taking them for a ride.'' He also sought to clarify that his fight was only on certain principles and that he was not hankering after any post. PTI
