JAIPUR, MARCH 6. The former Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, has asked the Rajasthan Government to protect the Dalit population in the State from the highhandedness of the "upper caste'' and "feudal elements''. The Dalit population in the State was feeling terrorized with the recent attacks on them in various parts, he charged. Citing the case of the recent murder of a youth, Mohanlal Meghwal in Jaitaran in Pali district on March 1 by a group of persons, who included a former MLA, Mr.Gehlot said the incident brought back the memories of the tyrannical "feudal days'' in the State, in the past. Mohanlal was first stabbed and later a tractor was driven over his body, Mr.Gehlot said in a statement from Ahmedabad where he is coordinating the proposed commemoration of the Dandi March. He demanded an enquiry into the case.
