Check illegal construction

Sir, — A multi-storied building is coming up on a small piece of land on the narrow lane adjacent to St. Anthony's Church, Mettuguda, Tarnaka, measuring around 85-90 square yards and trapezoid in shape. The lane is less than 15 feet wide and leads to the interior of Mettuguda, Keshavnagar Colony and Sitaphalmandi. With the pillared-construction abutting it, one can imagine the congestion and consequential inconvenience it would cause to residents of these areas. The municipal authorities should look into the matter to see if the building is following the norms.

S.V. Nath,

Mettuguda

Amenities please!

Sir, — Malkajgiri Municipality topped the list in collection of property tax this financial year, but lagged far behind other municipalities in providing basic amenities.

Stray dogs and mosquitoes are causing great inconvenience to the residents of Maljakgiri, especially those residing in Balram Nagar Colony near Safilguda Lake.

People cannot even venture out for a morning walk due to fear of stray dogs. At night it is the turn of the mosquitoes to trouble residents. Besides, frequent summer power cuts are literally causing sleepless nights.

Should not the Malkajgiri municipal authorities also top in providing basic amenities to its residents such as frequent fogging to drive away mosquitoes and sterilising/eliminating stray dogs?

P. Satyanarayana,

Malkajgiri

Parking trouble

Sir, — Due to increasing air traffic at Hyderabad airport it is becoming extremely difficult to accommodate the rush at the arrival terminal. During peak hours, it is extremely difficult to find a suitable parking place for vehicles.

Further, vehicles parked far away from the arrival-exit points at a parking fee of Rs. 30 find no time or chance to pick up passengers coming out.It is therefore expedient that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) consider a better alternative to constructing a building complex at the East and North side of airport preferably on the open space available off the other side of the runway.

Bh. Indu Sekhar,

Tarnaka

Extend bus route

Sir, — Bus no. 99 K plies between Kacheguda railway station and Vanasthalipurma via Koti at intervals of two hours. It starts and terminates at Vanasthalipuram Shopping Complex. There are several residential colonies with over 1000 houses on the eastern side of Rythu Bazaar/Sampoorna Theatre such as, Kamalanagar, Subhadranagar, High Court Colony, Saradanagar, etc. Most residents are employees. Due to lack of bus facility to go to Kacheguda railway station they have to walk nearly a kilometre to catch this bus at the shopping complex.

I request the RTC authorities to consider extending 99 K from Sampoorna Theatre/Rythu Bazaar to High Court Colony/Subhadranagar.

G.R. Laxmi,

Vanasthalipuram

Road incomplete

Sir, — The 34-metre span railway track of the ROB (started on 21-2-03) at Jamai Osmania was completed last year. Work on the approach road towards OU campus is still in progress.

After digging four 25-ft deep pits on Adikmet main road the contractor has abandoned work.

The public has removed traffic obstructions and is using the road at great risk. The MCH is requested to look into this immediately to avert accidents.

C.L. Narasimhan,

Adikmet
