DEHRA DUN, MARCH 7. The urgency to save the environment was beautifully displayed on the roads and Gandhi Park here by artists and school children today. Organised as the Rangyatra 2005 by concerned groups led by the Avikal Theatre Company, Mumbai, the festival began with special performances underlining the need to conserve the ecology at the Nanhi Dunya Rangshala. The audience, especially the children were quite excited as they saw the `lions' from the Sakya Tibetan Monastery and the `dragons'. The dance by artists from the monastery tried to inspire the people to realise that the natural environment needed to be saved in the interests of all living beings. All appreciated the Dragon play by the Nanhi Dunya Bal Rangshala. Members of the Kefas Theatre Studio, Sweden and Free School, Holland also participated in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, the noted environmentalist, Avdhash Kaushal, felt that only a clean natural environment could promote finer feelings amongst the human beings. He urged the students not to wait for the Government to initiate environment protection works but begin restoring the natural beauty around their homes and schools voluntarily The Uttaranchal Director General of Police, Kanchan Choudhary, urged the people to undertake nature conservation works as part of their personal duty if they wanted the earth to continue as a place worth living.
