MANGALORE, MARCH 7. The District Crime Intelligence Bureau on Monday arrested three persons in connection with the triple murder case reported from Kadeshivalaya Mutthinagudde in the Bantwal Rural Police Station limits on February 15. The victims were agriculturist Raghuram Bhandary and his servants, Gopal of Padil and Rekha of Sanoor. The Superintendent of Police, Soumendhu Mukherjee, in a press release here gave the names of the arrested persons as Ganesh Bhat of Narimogaru, Ramesh of Volathadka, Puttur and Vinaya Rai alias Udaya Rai of Kayarthadka Kallanja village in Belthangady. The police took into custody Vinaya Rai at the KSRTC bus stand, Puttur and based on his information, arrested the others at Gadipila Narimogaru village. While Ganesh Bhat and Ramesh were allegedly involved in the act, Vinaya Rai is said to have masterminded it. The police were clueless about the motive as the assailants had taken nothing, including a large sum of money, away from the scene of crime. Sources in the department said Rekha, one of the victims, was sent by the accused to Raghuram Bhandary's house with an intention to carry out a theft. However, differences over sharing the spoils led to her killing. The police had recovered two sickles from a place near the scene of crime. While Ganesh is facing at least four cases of theft, Ramesh is co-accused with Vinaya Rai in a case. Vinaya Rai has 12 cases booked against him. The sources said Vinaya Rai is also charged with marrying women for dowry and dumping them subsequently. The police had set up three squads to arrest the culprits. Mr. Mukherjee has commended the policemen involved in the arrest and announced rewards.
