Award for infrastructure development

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) has been given the Indian Innovation Award 2005 for its contribution to development of infrastructure sector on public-private partnership basis.

The award was presented to IL&FS Chairman and Managing Director, Ravi Parthasarathy, by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, at a glittering ceremony here on Monday.

The award has been conceived by the Entrepreneurship and Management Processes International (EMPI) B-School group in association with its interdisciplinary initiative, CIEPRO, and aims at recognising innovation of good quality that demonstrates potential for significant national development.

"The award specifically recognises an organisational approach in developing and implementing infrastructure projects and this recognition will provide great confidence to our institution to scale up its activities,'' said Mr. Parthasarathy.

U.S. presence at Aahar 2005

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. High quality agricultural products from the United States will be on display at the U.S. Pavilion at the Aahar 2005 food exhibition which begins at Pragati Maidan on Wednesday. The exhibition will be on till March 13.

According to an official release, among those participating in the fair will be representatives of the U.S. food industry including California Pistachio Commission, the Washington Apple Commission, the Pear Bureau Northwest and the California Table Grape Commission.

Cost management award

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI), a premier professional accounting body, today announced the constitution of "Cost Management Excellence Award" as part of a year-long programme to commemorate its diamond jubilee celebration.

The awards would be given under the public and private sector enterprises categories to recognise outstanding contribution in adapting and using cost and management techniques.

The Union Minister for Company Affairs, Prem Chand Gupta, will inaugurate the celebration at the Vigyan Bhawan here on March 12.

Hindi Academy honour

NEW DELHI MARCH 8. The Hindi Academy, Delhi, awarded the "Saahityik Kriti Sammaan" to M.D. Thomas for his book "Kabeer Aur Eesaayee Chintan" at a function at the FICCI auditorium here this past Sunday. The award is in recognition of Dr. Thomas's contribution to Hindi literature. He has done a doctorate in Hindi and is the first Keralite to be honoured by the Hindi Academy. The award was presented to him by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
