Kottayam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOTTAYAM, MARCH 8. The Kerala Congress (S) leader, P. C. George, today alleged that the UDF Government was going back on its commitment made to paddy farmers. According to Mr. George, the Chief Minister had assured that steps to alleviate the present crisis would be initiated soon. It was on the basis of the assurance that the party had suspended its indefinite fast. However, the Government was yet to take any effective steps to extend financial assistance or procure paddy, he said. Reacting to a question, Mr. George said his party was not at all thinking in terms of the reunification of the various Kerala Congress factions. However, they were ready to join hands with any of the regional parties to fight for the legitimate demands of the State, he said. The party's State conference would be held here from May 27 to 30, he said. The party has a strength of three lakh members, he said. The deliberations at the conference would help transform the party into a corrective force in State politics, Mr. George said.
