SSLC examination begins today

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 8. As many as 5,85,727 candidates will appear for the SSLC examinations to be held at 2,652 centres from Wednesday.

As many as 4,72,809 of them are in the new scheme and 1,12,918 in the old scheme. Over 38,000 teachers have been deployed on invigilation duty. At the 16 centres in the Gulf countries, 1,068 students will appear for the examination.

Special care is being taken to prevent mixing of answer-sheets of old and new schemes. Exclusive halls will be provided for students appearing in different schemes.

Similarly, transportation and valuation of answer-sheets too will be done in a foolproof manner.

Feedback

Since the examinations are being held after introducing the grading system, feedback will be collected from students through a sample survey from select schools in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Thalassery. The students will be given a chance to express their views and problems in appearing for the examination through a questionnaire that will be served immediately after the examination, sources said.

This year, only teachers of the tenth standard will be drafted for valuation that begins on April 4. Valuation camps will be opened in 53 centres. The Government will give training on valuation to the teachers before starting the valuation camps, the Director of Public Instruction (DPI), A. Ajith Kumar, said.

The DPI will monitor the conduct of the examinations through audio-conferencing on all days at 4 p.m. The valuation centres too will be linked within the next four days to monitor the movement of answersheets, he said.

Fourteen squads comprising officials of the Secretariat have been formed for checking examination malpractices.
