Film studio to come up in Himachal

SHIMLA, MARCH 8. Himachal Pradesh will soon have a full-fledged film studio. This was announced by the Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, while giving a "mahurat shot" for a new film, "Chanchal", near Chhota Shimla here today. The Chief Minister, who was present along with his wife Pratibha Singh, Member of Parliament, said the Government was seriously exploring the possibility of setting up a well- equipped film studio since a large number of film producers were attracted to the State every year.

The State has a colossal natural beauty and it should be exploited for the benefit of the people, he said. The film studio would be made at such a location so that every requirement was provided under one roof and producers would not have to go out of the State for any type of equipment, he added.

This would also be good for the hill State as it would lead to some employment generation besides giving an impetus to the artists and actors from the State. He said that a number of people hailing from the State had carved a niche in the field of arts and other fields and the young generation needed to strive for professional excellence.

A number of film personalities including Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Bindu were also present on the occasion of the introductory shot. The film "Chanchal'' is being produced by Inderjit and the screen play is written by Arman Shababi. Ms Grasy Singh of the "Lagan'' fame is the heroine and Milind Gowali and Swapanil Joshi are other main leads
