TIRUNELVELI, MARCH. 9. The Fast Track Court II Judge, Ramamurthy, acquitted a Puthiya Thamizhagam functionary, who was arrested on charges of throwing stones on the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's convoy when she visited Vasudevanallur in the district last year for the Parliamentary election campaign. When Ms.Jayalalithaa was campaigning near the Vasudevanallur circuit house on April 27, 2004, some stones reportedly fell on her vehicle and the jeep, on which the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's candidate for Tenkasi (reserved) constituency, S. Murugesan, was standing. The police arrested Soosaiyappan of Vasudevanallur in this connection. As many as 17 witnesses, including six AIADMK men, were examined in the case. However, the case against the PT cadre was not established, which ultimately led to the acquittal of Mr. Soosaiyappan.
