CHENNAI, MARCH 9. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam today moved the Madras High Court for copies of documents, including the February 18 order acquitting the former All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam minister, Sengottaiyan, to file an appeal in the Supreme Court. "Since Mr. Sengottaiyan is a leader of the AIADMK, I reasonably apprehend that the present Government ruled by the AIADMK will not explore the possibilities of pursuing the matter further by filing a special leave petition to appeal before the Supreme Court against the order of acquittal passed by the High Court," said the applications filed by the party general secretary, K. Anbazhagan and the legal wing secretary, R. Sai Bharathi. They said: "In a democracy, the political opponents play an important role both inside and outside the house. They are the watchdogs of the Government in power." It is just and necessary that a certified copy of the oral and documentary evidence, judgements of the trial court and the High Court in the matter be furnished to me on payment of necessary charges."
