Madurai
By Our Staff Reporter
MADURAI, MARCH 9. The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has thanked the Mayor, C. Ramachandran, and the council for granting permission to put up sunshades in front of the shops. In a press release issued recently, its president, S. Rethinavelu, said following an order issued by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, the Corporation officials indiscriminately demolished sunshades for which the traders had been remitting tax to the civic body. Since the Madurai Corporation had given time up to April 11 for regularisation, in accordance with its specifications, it is imperative that officials should discontinue the demolition of sunshades till such time. He welcomed the removal of unauthorised structures put up on platforms as the exercise would spruce up the city and reduce traffic congestion.
