Letters to the Editor
Sir, The way the media handle Women's Day `celebrations' is disappointing. Giving space to women celebrities to know what they think about women's freedom does not underline the importance of Women's Day. The day is meant to send a message to liberal minded people to liberate millions of women from subjugation and oppression. It is not a question of celebrating freedom for women but it is a fight against changing the attitude towards women in a much wider context.
Sutirtha Sahariah,
Sir, When women have made a mark in almost all the professions and excel in skills, knowledge and performance, do we need to patronise them? By dedicating a particular day of the year to women, are we implying that the other 364 days are men's days? When there is no international men's day, why have one for women?
Raghu Mohan Rao,
Sir, Many women have occupied top positions as rulers and administrators by virtue of their abilities. There is no need to pamper women with so-called empowerment by way of reservation. The highest philosophy of life and nature should govern us, rather than the fringe benefits of power!
S.R. Devaprakash,
