HYDERABAD, MARCH 10. The Minor Irrigation Minister, A. Chandrasekhar, on Thursday announced that 23 new minor irrigation schemes would be taken up with the loan assistance of Rs. 51.45 crores from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). This would create a new ayacut of 6,677 hectares. Addressing a press conference after holding a review meeting with legislators and officials, the Minister said seven schemes would be in Adilabad followed by six in Nizamabad, four in Chittoor and one each in Karimnagar, Khammam, Warangal, Prakasam, Guntur and Kurnool. He said revival of minor irrigation tanks was being taken up in a big way according them speedy clearance. As against clearance for 20 to 30 schemes earlier in a year, as many as 120 schemes were cleared during the last seven months.
