Focus on organic farming

ALAPPUZHA, MARCH 10. The Agriculture Department is organising a regional seminar on ``Organic farming'' and an exhibition of agricultural and allied products produced by women's groups in the district functioning as a part of the Women in Agriculture project at Raiban Auditorium here on March 13, the Alappuzha Principal Agricultural Officer, V.V. Pushpangadan, has said.

The Minister for Agriculture,K.R. Gouri, will inaugurate the seminar and the exhibition at a function at 10 a.m. The Alappuzha MP, K.S. Manoj, will preside over.

K.C. Joseph and D. Sugathan, both MLAs, the Alappuzha district panchayat president, K.H. Babujan, and the municipal chairperson, Lalithamma Somanathan, will offer felicitations.

Mr. Pushpangadan will propose a vote of thanks.

The inaugural session will be followed by the seminar. The Additional Director of Agriculture, K.K. Gangadharan, will lead the classes. Those who would present papers at the seminar included A.K. Sherif of Agricultural College, Vellayani, on ``Potential of Organic Farming and Modern Trends,'' Dinesh K. Menon on ``Organic Products and Certification'' and R. Venugopal on the ``Marketing Potential of Organic Products.''
