Celebration time for FUCC

BANGALORE, MARCH 10. It was time for celebration and a few good words about a job well done. And for Friends Union Cricket Club (FUCC), one of the oldest cricket clubs in Bangalore, the annual awards night at the Chinnaswamy Stadium premises here on Wednesday was an occasion to look back with pride at the last season besides aiming for higher laurels in the coming months.

Last season, FUCC emerged champion in the KSCA Group I, first division league championship and in the Jawahars floodlit tournament. FUCC also emerged joint-winner in the Super Eight tournament, besides settling for the runner-up slot in the Y.S.R. Memorial tournament. Understandably the club secretary, N. Duraiswami, was delighted and he, along with a slew of former players, exhorted the current team to play hard while adhering to the spirit of the game.

Players who excelled last season were also felicitated. The awardees: Shyam Ponnappa - best batsman; B. Akhil - best allrounder; B. Naveen and S. Kartik - best bowlers; A.R. Mahesh - best fielder; and Nihal Unni - promising youngster. — Our Sports Reporter
