LONDON, MARCH 10. The International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2007 qualifying tournament was officially launched by its chief executive, Malcolm Speed, and the fixtures announced today. A total of 42 matches will be held at a record 25 venues across northern and southern Ireland, with the final being played at Clontarf, near Dublin, on July13. Ireland's first match of the 2005 ICC Trophy will be against Bermuda in Stormont on July 1. Scotland will play on the same day against Oman at Instonians, in Belfast. Ireland is drawn with Bermuda, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, the U.S. and Denmark, while Scotland is grouped with Holland, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Oman and Canada. Mr. Speed said, "It is 25 years since Sri Lanka beat Canada in the final of the first ICC Trophy in England. On the occasion of this event's silver jubilee, there is more at stake for the 12 participating teams than ever. As well as competing for the prestigious ICC Trophy, this event is about the five remaining places at the next ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies." The president of the Irish Cricket Union, Stand Mitchell, commenting on the matches to be played in Ireland, said, "the ICC Trophy would be a huge shot in the arm for cricket throughout Ireland." P.
