Tripura
AGARTALA, MARCH 10. The Tripura Government has promulgated an ordinance for introducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) from April 1, the Finance Minister, Badal Chowdhury, said here today. Following the recommendations of the State Cabinet, the Governor, Dinesh Nandan Sahaya, promulgated the ordinance as the State Government was yet to pass the Tripura Value Added Tax Bill in the Assembly. Following a strong demand from the Opposition, the Tripura Assembly, during its last sittings on December 13, sent the "Tripura Value Added Tax Bill, 2004" for further scrutiny to the 11-member select committee headed by Mr. Chowdhury. The Bill, thoroughly scrutinised by the select committee, will be reintroduced in the next session of the Assembly beginning from March 16 for final approval of the House, Mr. Chowdhury said. He said the State Government had to promulgate the ordinance following the unanimous decision of the select committee. UNI
