GANDHINAGAR, MARCH 10. The Opposition Leader in the Gujarat Assembly, Arjun Modhvadia, has demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, in the wake of the "revolt'' in the BJP Legislature Party. Talking to mediapersons here today, Mr. Modhvadia said the dissidents' claim that more than 65 BJP MLAs supported the demand for a change of the State leadership showed that Mr. Modi had lost the majority support within the party and should resign on moral grounds.
Phone tapping
He disagreed with the view that the change of leadership was an internal matter of the ruling party. . The Opposition Leader said if Mr. Modi was not involved in telephone tapping as claimed by his aides, he should not hesitate to order an impartial judicial inquiry into the allegations. To assuage the hurt feelings of the dissidents, Mr. Modi met several party MLAs separately to acquaint himself with their problems and take necessary steps to solve them. Though the dissidents kept themselves away from the media glare as per the advice of the national president, L.K. Advani, most of them were not amused by Mr. Modi's action.
