PONDICHERRY, MARCH 10. The Pondicherry Government has decided to increase the wages of employees working in fourteen weaving cooperative societies in the Union Territory. A government press release said the wages of those weaving lungies have been increased from Rs. 336 to Rs. 355. It is also planning to increase the salary of those involved in weaving other materials by 7.92 per cent. The increase will cost the Government Rs. 21.60 lakhs annually and would benefit 2,600 workers and 400 others who assist them. The hike comes into effect from November 1.
