JD(U) opposes Women's Bill in present form
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
MARCH 10.
Sharad Yadav, chairman of the Parliamentary Board of the Janata Dal (United), has opposed the Women's Reservation Bill "in its present form." Speaking to newspersons here, Mr. Yadav said he was consulted by the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, last month and had told him that his party would also favour reservation for women from the weaker sections and minority communities in the proposed Bill.
He welcomed the Supreme Court order on the Jharkhand issue but regretted that in a democracy the National Democratic Alliance had to approach the judiciary. "If the UPA Government had acted judiciously the Legislative need not have approached the Judiciary for essentially what was its role," he said.
