Mob of 30 attacked me: Bilkis

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI, MARCH 10. Bilkis Yakub Rasul today said that there were 25 to 30 people in the mob that attacked her and her family on March 3, 2002, near Chapparwad village and it was not 500 people as suggested by the defence.

Defence counsel continued his cross-examination of Bilkis at the court of the special judge, U.D. Salvi.

Mr. Ponda asked Bilkis questions related to the topography of the scene of the incident. He said the incident took place between two hills and in the ravine of a riverbed. Bilkis denied this.

She was also asked to specify the weapons used by her attackers. She said the mob carried swords, sickles and sticks. The defence also asked her what the mob was shouting.

The cross-examination also focussed on contradictions and omissions in her statement to the Gujarat police and the CBI.

Her cross-examination will continue tomorrow.
