Pro tem Speaker serves notice on MLA

By D. P. Sharan

RANCHI, MARCH 10. The pro tem Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly, Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, today served notice on the Jharkhand Party MLA, Enos Ekka, asking why his membership of the House should not be cancelled.

Earlier, Mr. Balmuchu administered the oath of office and secrecy to 78 MLAs of the total 81 members. Three MLAs did not turn up today. Oath-taking will continue tomorrow. Mr. Balmuchu was acting on the complaint lodged by the Jharkhand Party president, N.E. Horo, against Mr. Ekka.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr. Balmuchu said that Mr. Horo had lodged a written complaint that Mr. Ekka was involved in an anti-party activity and should be dismissed from the House. The party president had also complained that Mr. Ekka had defied the party's decision to support the UPA in the House by siding with the National Democratic Alliance. Mr. Balmuchu said he would take action against Mr. Ekka tomorrow.

The Governor, Syed Sibte Razi, expressed the hope that he would be heard on the next date of hearing in the Supreme Court. The Governor arrived here from Lucknow this afternoon.

Those who did not take oath included two MLAs of the All-India Forward Bloc, Bhanu Pratap Sahi and Aparnasen Gupta and the Nationalist Congress Party MLA and Minister in the Shibu Soren Government, Kamlesh Kumar Singh.

The Chief Minister, Shibu Soren, said that Mr. Singh had some work outside the State and would take the oath tomorrow. The other two MLAs would also be present in the House tomorrow. The UPA leadership has been claiming that the two AIFB MLAs were with them.
