NTPC dividend

NEW DELHI MARCH 10. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Thursday paid an interim dividend of Rs 885.55 crores to the Centre for the current fiscal, marking the first payout by the Central utility following its public issue.

The dividend cheque was presented here to the Minister for Power, P.M. Sayeed, by the NTPC Chairman and Managing Director, C.P. Jain, in the presence of the Power Secretary, R.V. Shahi, and other officials.

This was the 11th consecutive year that NTPC has paid dividend to the Centre while it was the first to its other shareholders. Out of the total dividend payout of Rs 989.46 crores, an amount of Rs 103.91 crores was distributed to the new shareholders.

Religious leader honoured

NEW DELHI MARCH 10. The President of the World Council of Religions, Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj, was greeted by thousands of people at Janakpuri here on Wednesday. Leaders from the Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Sikh religions honoured Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj by presenting him with copies of their holy scriptures.

Addressing the gathering, Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj said: "Our requirements usually consist of living a happy life with love. We wonder where joy and peace in life can come from and do what we think will bring us this joy. If we see how our day passes, we will notice that we spend our time and attention mostly on our bodies, whether to keep it clean, fed and clothed and also do work mainly for the sake of body."

Rehab workshop concludes

NEW DELHI MARCH 10. The Delhi Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Yoganand Shastri, today said that rehabilitation of street children is a challenging task that requires sensitive handling and intensive participatory process.

Addressing a valedictory function of a workshop on "Rehabilitation of children in need of care and protection through juvenile justice" at the Delhi Secretariat here, Dr. Shastri said in order to achieve the objective, interviews with children, counselling sessions, travel arrangements at rehabilitation homes should take place.

British honour for AIIMS doctor

NEW DELHI MARCH 10. The Royal Society for Promotion of Health, UK, has selected the Head of the Department of Cardiology at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Prof. K. Srinath Reddy, for the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Medal in 2005.

The Chairman of the Royal Society, Andrew Banfield, announced the decision of the award committee, stating that the selection of Prof. Reddy was made from a worldwide list of persons who had an impressive record of contribution to the health promotion. The award would be presented to Prof. Reddy in London on June 13, 2005.
