JAIPUR, MARCH 10. The Rajasthan Government is considering extension of the Integrated Population and Development Project (IPDP) to all the 32 districts in view of the needs for reproductive health for women and the persistence of high maternal mortality rate in the State. The project is currently in operation in eight districts of the State. Announcing this in a conference on women's health here today, the State Medical and Health Minister, Digambar Singh, said the project would make a significant contribution to women's empowerment and support the State Government's efforts to check maternal mortality by providing health care facilities in the remote rural areas. He said the State Government had already trained 10,000 `dais' to encourage deliveries with full medial assistance. The two-day conference was organised by the Women's Resource Centre of the State Institute of Public Administration in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund to mark the International Women's Day. Dr. Singh said though a large number of health sub-centres were functioning across the State, the health workers still had to travel long distances to extend basic facilities to women. "We have requested the Centre not to abolish the posts of multi-purpose health workers for ensuring the availability of their services in the remote areas," he said. The Secretary, Family Welfare, O.P. Meena, said the IPDP was currently being implemented in two development blocks each of Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Rajsamand and Bhilwara districts.
