Contract dispute yet to be resolved

BRIDGETOWN (BARBADOS), MARCH 11. The contract dispute in West Indies cricket remained unresolved on Thursday, the deadline for a resolution given by Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.

``Finding a solution to the current sponsorship dispute will most likely not be completed by today as was hoped,'' said a statement released by the office of Mitchell, chairman of the Caricom Prime Minister's Sub-committee on Cricket. ``The parties continue to work towards a solution,'' the release added.

Mitchell met the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), title sponsor Digicel and Cable & Wireless on Monday, and hoped to resolve their differences within three days.

Last Friday, the WICB axed seven players with Cable & Wireless contracts, including captain Brian Lara, vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chris Gayle, because of a conflict of interest with the board's sponsor Digicel, the rival telecommunications company. — AP
