HYDERABAD, MARCH 11. Representatives of film industry bodies will meet on Sunday in what is seen as a last-ditch effort to find solution to their problems before launching an indefinite strike from April 1, 2005. At a press conference on Friday, K.S. Rama Rao, president, Telugu Film Producers' Council, reiterated that the entire industry would down shutters indefinitely depending on the outcome of the meeting. He said opinion makers in the industry had come up with the suggestion of an indefinite strike as repeated representations had failed to solve their problems.
Production cost
He said the industry was plagued with problems mainly comprising spiralling cost of production and alarming decline in discipline. There were also welfare issues concerning the lower strata led by the Andhra Pradesh Film Industry Employees Federation, which represents 24 different crafts. What would come under spotlight at the meeting was the way pre-production agreements between producers on one hand and directors, artistes, technicians, distributors and exhibitors on the other were being violated. The agreements include those pertaining to remuneration, disposal of rights and the need for the council to issue NOCs before a production could get off on the floors. The meeting would see representatives from the Movie Artistes Association, the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce, which is the supreme body for producers, distributors, exhibitors and studio owners, and the federation, which is the body for directors, technicians, production managers and for the 24 crafts.
