Temperature

TIRUCHI, MARCH 11. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 36.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.7 degree Celsius.

Murdered

A 60-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his brother at Vazhavandhi village near Musiri in the district today. The deceased was identified as Chellan. Police sources here said that land dispute was the reason behind the murder.

Sources said Valian, brother of the victim, and his son, Kozhundan, allegedly attacked Chellan and his son, Murugesan, with an `aruval' near the victim's house. While Chellan died of his injuries at the government hospital in Musiri, Murugesan is undergoing treatment there. Valian and Kozhundan, who were also injured in the melee, were admitted to the same hospital. The Musiri police are investigating the case.

Demonstration

Members of the Tamil Nadu Fair Price Shop Employees Association staged a demonstration near the Collectorate here today in support of their charter of demands. The association district president, Ramesh, led the demonstration. Their charter of demands included disbursement of Deepavali bonus and Pongal prize to fair price shop employees similar to that given to the staffs of the transport and electricity departments. Their other demands included promotion for fair price shop employees on basis of seniority. They also demanded pay on a par with salespersons of civil supplies corporation.

17 injured as lorry overturns

Seventeen persons were injured after the lorry in which they were travelling suddenly overturned at Thudaiyur in the district today. The lorry, carrying plantains, was on its way to Tiruchi from Thudaiyur when the incident occurred. The injured were admitted to the Government Hospital, Tiruchi, for treatment. The Vathalai police have registered a case.
