Kapunadu threatens State-wide stir

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. March 12. Andhra Pradesh State Kapunadu has expressed its deep anguish over the continued negligence to which the Kapus in the State were being subjected to by the successive Governments and has given a call for a State-wide movement to get their `legitimate' share in all the sectors to pave way for the community's socio-political and economic development.

The Kapus regretted that though they form the single largest community in the State, they were being denied due share which was eventually forcing them to take cudgels against both Congress and Telugu Desam-- the two principal political parties.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, the State president of the Kapunadu, Pilla Venkateswara Rao, said that in the first phase as part of the State-wide call, people belonging to the Telega, Balija, Kapu and other sub-sects coming under the Kapunadu umbrella would hold a peaceful demonstration in front of all the district collectorates in support of its 13 point charter of demands.

Main demands

One of the main demands of the Kapunadu was to declare the Kapu and other allied sub-sects as Backward Classes.

The real crunch comes in the following two demands-- adequate representation to the Balija/Kapus from the backward Rayalaseema region in the central and State Cabinets and secondly giving an MLC ticket each in all the districts to the persons belonging to the Balija community.

The community also demanded a berth in the TTD Trust Board and wanted that the Government itself should take steps to erect a bronze statue at Tirupati for Krishnadevaraya whom the community claimed belonged to their clan.
